Muhammadabad Town

Head-quarters of the tahsil of the same name in GhazTpur District, United Provinces, situated in 25° 37' N. and 83° 47' E., on the Bengal and North-Western Railway and close to the road from Ghazlpur town to Buxar. Population (1901), 7,270. The town is administered under Act XX of 1856, with an income of about Rs. 1,500. It contains one tolerably straight thorough- fare, lined with well-built shops and houses, and wears a neat and clean appearance. A weekly bazar is held, and a flourishing export trade in grain is springing up. Besides the ordinary public ofifices, there are a dispensary, a munstfl, and two schools with 184 pupils.
