They were all, at various points in time, heading Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which we all know as Amul. Followers of business history may know that. What few people may know, however, is the fact that these managing directors (MDs), and a few others, ended their stints at Amul on inglorious notes – leaving without even a formal farewell.
  Remember, these are people who would have rubbed shoulders with powerful politicians, both Indian and foreign. Clearly, in the process, they rubbed some people the wrong way, which may have contributed to their unseemly exits. Here’s what we do know.

  Every year, Amul brings out one of its iconic advertisements on November 26, a day it calls National Milk Day. It’s the birthday of Amul’s legendary founder, Dr Verghese Kurien, fondly called the father of India’s White Revolution and even as the Milkman of India. During his lifetime, he received numerous awards including the Padma Shree, Padma Bhushan and the Padma Vibhushan. He is credited with setting up not just GCMMF but also the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and the Institute of Rural Management at Anand (IRMA).
