Village on the banks of the Vamanapuram or Attingal &lt;br /&gt;
river, in the Chirayinkil taluk of Travancore State, Madras, on the high &lt;br /&gt;
road from Trivandrum to Quilon, situated in 8° 40' N. and 76 48' E. &lt;br /&gt;
Population (1901), 3,889. It is the chief place in the Attingal proverti, &lt;br /&gt;
the hereditary estate of the Ranis of Travancore. Captain Nieuhoff, &lt;br /&gt;
who gives almost the earliest description of it, observed in 1664 that &lt;br /&gt;
1 the ancient race of the kings of Travancore owed its origin to Attingen.' &lt;br /&gt;
The senior princess of the Travancore royal family is known as the &lt;br /&gt;
Attingal Mutta Tampuran. The installation of the Ranis takes place &lt;br /&gt;
