Protests against China-made goods may be continuing in parts of India, but they have hardly affected the preparations for a 105-yrold fair in Pithoragarh where bulk of goods sold are Chinese.

The Jauljibi fair, known for showcasing Tibetan-Chinese products, will start in the middle of November.“There are no plans of scrapping it,“ district officials said.

“Those protesting are against the use of Chinese products for Diwali. The protests would not affect the Jauljibi fair, which is a traditional event and sees participation mainly from locals,“ said an official. Jauljibi, loca ted at the confluence of Gori and Kali rivers, almost 60 km from Pithoragarh, has had a rich trading history. The mela was a point of confluence for merchants from India, Nepal and Tibet, even drawing in traders from as far away as Kolkata. The present version mainly has Tibetan-Chinese products brought in by local and Nepalese traders.
