''<br /> <br /> <br /> =Jiri=<br /> <br /> River of Assam, which rises on the southern slopes of the <br /> Barail, and, after a southerly course of 75 miles, fells into the Barak <br /> or Surma. For nearly the whole of its length it forms the boundary <br /> between Cachar District and the State of Manipur, and it is crossed at <br /> Jirighat by a ferry, which is maintained for the use of travellers along <br /> the Silchar-Manipur road. The greater part of its course lies through <br /> hilly country, and there is very little cultivated land in the vicinity. <br /> The only traffic brought down by the river consists of forest produce <br /> and tea from a garden situated at Jirighat, about 5 miles above its <br /> confluence with the Barak.</div>
