Typically, old states, ‘divisions’ and districts have been broken into smaller units, and many tahsils upgraded to districts. Some units have since been renamed. Therefore, this article is being posted mainly for its historical value. ''<br /> <br /> Town in the Sambhar district of the State of Jodhpur, <br /> Rajputana, situated in 27° 1' N. and 75° 1 E., on the northern edge <br /> of the Sambhar Lake, about a mile east of Kuchawan Road station, <br /> a junction of the Rajputana-Malwa and Jodhpur-Bikaner Railways. <br /> The town is walled, and had in 1901 a population of 5,640. There <br /> is a large export trade in salt, the manufacture of which supports <br /> a considerable proportion of the people. Another important industry <br /> is the manufacture of quilts embroidered with elaborate designs. In <br /> the town are a post ofiice, an Anglo-vernacular school, and a small <br /> hospital. A separate district of Nawa existed up to 1902-3, when <br /> it was amalgamated with that of Sambhar.</div>
