(or Baragharia Nawabganj).— Town in &lt;br /&gt;
Malda District, Eastern Bengal and Assam, situated in 24° 36' N. and &lt;br /&gt;
88° 17' E., on the Mahananda, a little above its junction with the &lt;br /&gt;
Ganges. Population (1901), 17,016. A steamer service plying from &lt;br /&gt;
Godagari to English Bazar calls here, and it is the seat of a brisk trade. &lt;br /&gt;
It is the most populous town in the District, and was constituted a &lt;br /&gt;
municipality in 1903. In 1904-5 the municipal income was Rs. 6,600, &lt;br /&gt;
mainly from a tax on persons (or property tax) ; and the expenditure &lt;br /&gt;
