=Sultanpur Town (2)=&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Town in the Sultanpur tahsil of Kapurthala &lt;br /&gt;
State, Punjab, situated in 31° 13' N. and 75° 12' E., 16 miles south of &lt;br /&gt;
Kapurthala town. Population (1901), 9,004. Founded in the eleventh &lt;br /&gt;
century by one vSultan Khan Lodi, said to have been a general of &lt;br /&gt;
Mahmud of Ghazni, it lay on the great highway from Lahore to Delhi, &lt;br /&gt;
and was a famous place in the Jullundur Doab. It contains a sarai &lt;br /&gt;
built by Jahanglr, and two bridges, one attributed to Jahangir and one &lt;br /&gt;
to Aurangzeb. Aurangzeb and his brother, Dara Shikoh, were brought &lt;br /&gt;
up here. Sultanpur was burnt in 1739 by Nadir Shah, and is only now &lt;br /&gt;
regaining its prosperity, while its trade in grain and cloth is increasing. &lt;br /&gt;
It has a middle school and a dispensary.&lt;/div&gt;</summary>
