Meena Takhellambam, the noted choreographer, helped her become a model. At the Miss Orange Queen pageant she was declared Best catwalk. At The Mega Miss North-East 2010 contest she was the 2nd runner up and was got the Best traditional costume prize.

Learnt Manipuri classical dancing from, among other gurus, guru Thounaojam Lata.

Television

At a very young age, in 1999, Soma started hosting a children’s television programme on Doordarshan, Imphal.

Later she hosted Manipuri Film Esei , also on Doordarshan, Imphal.
