Biography
Janaki Bai lives again

The Allahabad of the early 1900s saw the reign of the nightingale called Janaki Bai alias Chappan Chhuri(1875-1934). She had nearly 150 music records to her credit with her first record dating to 1907.
A docudrama was made for DD1 on her life and times of the singer who had set to pace several musical evenings during that era. Directed by Madhuvat Rai, the docu-drama was Scripted by Kailash Gautam, Garima Srivastava a stage actress from the city, played the central figure.
"Though a courtesan, she was highly respected in the music circles," said Garima.
The docu-drama was shot at various locales of the city which included Chowdhary Naunihal Singh, Bachchaji Ki Kothi, Mehdauri and Rasoolabad.
