The Miss Nepal contest is South Asia’s second oldest and ranks among the world’s better established annual pageants. Volunteers have painstakingly reconstructed the history of the Miss Nepal pageant. If you feel that these memories need to be preserved, you can update or correct any article in this series, and/ or send the names/ dignified biographical details/ photographs of any of the national or even regional finalists, related to their lives before, during or after this contest, to the Facebook page, Indpaedia.com. All information used will be duly acknowledged.

The pageant

Venue: Hotel Annapurna

19 contestants were selected from audition centres in Biratnagar, Pokhara, Chitwan, Birgunj, Nepalgunj and Butwal.

Fanta Miss Nepal World received Rs 100,000 while Fanta Miss Nepal Earth and Fanta Miss Nepal International received Rs 60,000 and Rs 40,000 respectively. Subtitle winners received Rs 15,000 each.

The event had to be postponed because of the demise of Nepal’s former prime minister Surya Bahadur Thapa.

5. Priya Rani Lama Born: 1992 A BSc 5’ 5″ Belongs to Siraha. A student of Microbiology. A cricket and volleyball player of Janakpur Youth Club, she has even travelled to India and Bhutan for cricket tournaments. Was 1st Runner up of Miss Purwanchal 2010. Has recorded a song.

6. Sujita Khanal Born: 1994 A graduate. 5’ 5″ Belongs to Rupandehi Participated in Miss Global Lumbini 2012 Bhairahawa.

7. Rita KC Born: 1995 Has a Diploma in Fashion Designing 5’ 4″ Belongs to Kaski

8. Sonu Thapa Magar Born: 1993 5’ 6″ A graduate. Belongs to Lalitpur Winner of Miss Global International 2012 and 2nd Runner-up in Miss Talent and Miss Friendship.

Priya Rani Lama (Contestant No. 5) had also contested the 2010 edition of Miss Nepal where she won the Miss Beautiful Complexion title. Also, she is first runner up at the Miss Purbanchal-2010 event. Lama had also worked as the choreographer of the 2011 edition of the Miss Purbanchal beauty pageant.

Durga Gurung (Contestant No. 15) is the Miss UK-2012. She arrived here all the way from London to participate the competition.

Medha Koirala (Contestant No. 1), who had successfully showcased her theatre talent, participated in the Miss Nepal 2015. She had also participated previous event of Miss Nepal.
