− | + | Mumbai : India celebrated a proud moment on the global stage as four young Indian girls clinched top honours at the 14th edition of the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) 2025. The competition, held in Prishtina, Kosovo, from April 11 to 17, saw participation from over 60 countries.

India’s all-girls team secured the 12th place overall, with Shreya Mandhada (15) from Mumbai and Sanjana Philo Chacko (16) from Kerala earning silver medals, while Saee Patil (18) from Pune and Shreya Gupta Ray (18) from Kolkata won the bronze.

India’s road to the EG- MO is a rigorous one, beginning with the Regional Mathematics Olympiad (RMO), followed by the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO), and culminating in an intensive training camp for the final four-member team.

“Maths is not about calculations—it’s like forming pic- tures in your head,” said Gupta Ray, who is set to begin her undergraduate journey at the Chennai Mathematical Institute, pursuing mathematics and computer science. Patil, too, is preparing for undergraduate studies in the field, inspired by her intuitive approach to problem-solving that often sparks ideas at night.

The team’s journey was marked by determination and dedication, with each student finding her own rhythm during months of training. |

“We each have a way that works for us,” said Chacko, who narrowly missed gold by a single point.
| ||
+ | The girls received a rousing farewell at the airport, proudly donning the Team India blazers as well-wishers cheered them on. Back home, the excitement peaked as families, teachers, and peers followed the live scoreboard.

Shruti Sonal / Letʼs add up the medals: The ʻOlympicsʼ where India is shining/ TNN Aug 8, 2024
These come on the heels of a great haul by Indiaʼs four women team at the European Girls Mathematics Olympiad (EGMO) in April, with
all participants bagging individual medals.
Far from being a stroke of luck, the medals have been a couple of years in the making.
