This is a patchwork of information selected from various sources for the excellence of their content. |
India has the world’s highest golf course at Gulmarg Golf Club, altitude 2,650 metres), Talking of heritage, golf in India is a legacy left behind by the British Raj and Royal Calcutta Golf Club has already celebrated its 175th anniversary (founded in 1829). In fact, it’s older than any club in the world other than a handful in the UK. The Indian Golf Union, on the other hand, was founded much later in 1955. Today, there are nearly 200 golf clubs in the country and a new domestic golf tour has been launched (Oct 2006), which will no doubt propel the popularity of golf even further in magical India. In addition to the ten top ranked Indian golf courses shown below, we also have three Indian gems that deserve close inspection – Golden Greens, Tollygunge and Bombay Presidency.
