Urban affairs minister Manjalamkuzhy Ali
Ali represents Perinthalmanna in Malappuram and has been doing business in the Gulf since 1980. He entered politics after 15 years in business, when he joined, a tad ironically, the activities of pro-CPM organisations in the Gulf and later Kerala. Ali has stakes in the electronics and cosmetics business in Saudi Arabia and in UAE. After he became a full-time politician, his sons began looking after the business that includes, among others, a retail chain in north Kerala called Ayisha Textiles. His declared assets in 2011 were worth more than Rs 14 crore.
