Typically, old states, ‘divisions’ and districts have been broken into smaller units, and many tahsils upgraded to districts. Some units have since been renamed. Therefore, this article is being posted mainly for its historical value.
Zamindari tahsil in Ganjam District, Madras, consisting of several petty proprietary estates which adjoin the Government taluk of Chicacole, with an area of 51 square miles. The population in 1901 was 26,452, compared with 24,878 in 1891. They live in 41 villages. The head-quarters, Narasannapeta Town, is out- side its limits. The demand for land revenue and cesses in 1903-4 was Rs. 40,400. The Urlam estate, which is nearly 20 miles in area, is a prosperous tract, being fertile and irrigated by river channels from the Vamsadhara. Bell-metal vessels are made at Mobagam.
