The Congress MP has a thriving education business spread across Lucknow and Basti, his native district. The Surya Group of Institutes, which Pal had christened after his father Surya Buksha, has colleges for engineering, management, aviation and pharmacy, apart from the Surya Baksha Pal Girls Inter college and Surya Baksha Pal Post Graduate degree college. Though Pal has claimed, on oath, that his assets have grown from Rs 10 lakh during the 2004 Lok Sabha elections to Rs 4.97 crore in 2009, his Congress colleagues allege the MP is worth much more.
