The intitution was established in January 1957 and inaugurated by Jawaharlal Nehru. Since then the institute is known as a medical learning center of excellence and a speciality hospital.the institution is best known for study of undergraduate and post-graduate level medical courses, specialist medical degrees and diplomas.
