Career

Television

April 29, 2020: The Times of India

Besides acting in several popular films, the actor was a part of several television shows including Chanakya, Bharat Ek Khoj, Sara Jahan Hamara, Banegi Apni Baat, Chandrakanta, Shrikant, AnooGoonj, Star Bestsellers and Sparsh.

In the fantasy television series Chandrakanta (1994-96), Irrfan Khan played the role of Badrinath/Somnath (twin brothers).

The actor was reluctant about featuring on TV, but his friend and co-actor in Chandrakanta, Shahbaaz Khan, pushed him to sign the series. He did as his friend said and earned recognition through the characters he portrayed on-screen.

Irrfan Khan not only proved his mettle on Indian television but was also part of In Treatment (an American TV series) where he played the role of Sunil and Tokyo Trial, a Japanese four-part historical drama miniseries, in which he was seen as Radhabinod Pal.

It was in 2018 that Irrfan was diagnosed with a rare type of Neuroendocrine tumour. He underwent chemotherapy and treatment in the US for the same, and recovered from it as well.

The official statement of his passing away read, ""...A man of few words and an actor of silent expressions with his deep eyes and his memorable actions on screen. It’s saddening that this day, we have to bring forward the news of him passing away. Irrfan was a strong soul, someone who fought till the very end and always inspired everyone who came close to him. After having been struck by lightning in 2018 with the news of a rare cancer, he took life soon after as it came and he fought the many battles that came with it. Surrounded by his love, his family for whom he most cared about, he left for heavenly abode, leaving behind truly a legacy of his own. We all pray and hope that he is at peace. And to resonate and part with his words he had said, “As if I was tasting life for the first time, the magical side of it.”
