Khyrim, 1908

{Khairam or Nongkhrem). — Petty State in the Khasi Hills, Eastern Bengal and Assam. The population in 1901 was 31,327, and the gross revenue in 1903-4 was Rs. 12,161. The principal products are potatoes, rice, millet, maize, lac, oranges, and cotton ; and the chief manufactures, silk, cloth, and iron hoes and billhooks. Deposits of lime, coal, and iron exist in the State, but they are not worked.
