Head-quarters of the taluk of the same name in Tanjore District, Madras, situated in 10° 32' N. and 79° 38' E., on the MuUiyar river, with a station on the District board railway. Population (1901), 5,400. There is an old Siva temple, containing a number of inscriptions.
