Gandhinagar: Chief minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the 11th Asian Aquatics Championship at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad. Over 900 athletes from 29 countries are participating in the championships. The chief minister stated that Gujarat aims to host five world-class sporting events before the 2036 Olympics, for which India has made a bid to host. "India is geared to host international sporting events under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Gujarat aims to host five world-class sports events before the 2036 Olympic Games," the chief minister said.
State sports minister Harsh Sanghavi said that it is an honour for the state to host the Asian Aquatics Championships, and welcomed all athletes.

Ahmedabad : Benedicton Rohit continued his fine form this season by claiming the silver in the 50m butterfly at the Asian Aquatics Championships in Ahmedabad. The 21-year-old Tamil Nadu swimmer, the first Indian to break the 24-second barrier at the World University Games in July, challenged Kazakhstan’s Adilbek Mussin for gold. Rohit finished in 23.89 seconds, just behind Mussin (23.74s), while Mussin’s compatriot Maxim Skazobtov took bronze in 23.9s.
India’s second medal on the penultimate day of swimming action came from their star swimmer, Srihari Nataraj, who once again stood tall for the hosts, clinching a bronze in the 100m freestyle event. TNN

Hosts India finished with their best medal haul in swimming and diving events at the ongoing 11th Asian Aquatics Championships in Ahmedabad. China, meanwhile, asserted their dominance, sealing the overall champion title with a staggering 49 medals (38 gold, 8 silver, 3 bronze).
For India, the final day brought four bronze medals through Bhavya Sachdeva, Sajan Prakash, Srihari Nataraj and the men’s relay team. With 13 medals (4 silver, 9 bronze), India finished overall ninth. In women's 400m freestyle, Bhavya Sachdeva battled with the trailing group to emerge marginally ahead after 150 metres. Vietnam’s Kha Nhi Nguyen (4:25.5s) followed Bhavya closely till the last lap and overtook Bhavya to claim silver and the Indian had to settle for bronze in 4:26.89, the first medal for India in the women's category.
