Thanjavur Listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Brihadeeswarar Temple is one of the oldest monuments in the country today. Built by Raja Chola I in the 11th century AD, it is also known as Peruvudaiyaar Temple or the Big Temple. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is more than 1,000 years old.With one of the tallest temple towers and the Nandi (scared bull) made of a single rock carving, Brihadeeswarar is one of the first all granite temples in India.The temple is a living testimony to the splendour of art and architecture of the Cholas.
Frequent bus and train services are available from all major cities in Tamil Nadu to Thanjavur.Tiruchirapalli Airport is the nearest airport; Thanjavur is a 65 km drive from there.You can also reach Thanjavur by rail.
