Ban on cattle

July 27, 2016: The Times of India

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat's capital, where Gauseva Ayog and Gauchar Vikas Board are headquartered, has a unique law prohibiting all types of cattle. The Gandhinagar municipal corporation had imposed a blanket ban on cow rearing on September 10, 2014. While cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot face cattle menace, especially during monsoon, Gandhinagar is insulated from the nuisance. The corporation has the authority to penalise anyone caught rearing cows.

A notification issued by former municipal commissioner G R Chaudhary had said: "Nomadic pastarolist families camp in the vicinity of the city and bring in their bovine wealth within the city and cause nuisance. Once they go, they leave behind unwanted animals too. Such illegal hauls should be discouraged.”
