A section of Babhans in Behar. The name denotes the Vedic sage Saradwat, the husband of Ahalya, who was seduced by IndTa. It has probably been borrowed from the Brahmanical system in comparatively recent times. Most of the Babhan section-names are territorial. The name also does duty as a sept of the Smyabansi Rajputs in Beha,r; a section of Brahmans; a thaI' of the Atri gotra of N epa-Ii . Brahmans; a section of Kayasths, Mayaras, 'rantis, Baidyas, GoaIil.s, Subarnabaniks, Sunris, and San¬khciris in Bcngal.
