Harrand

Village in the Jampur tahsil of Dera Ghazi Khan District, Punjab, situated in 29° 33' N. and 70 8' E., at the foot of the Sulaiman Hills. Population (1901), 715. Tradition connects the site with the Greek invasion, and derives the name from one Plari, a slave of Alexander. The existing remains are of Hindu origin, and date back to a time before the Muhammadan conquest. A consider- able fort, built by the Sikhs in 1836, is now occupied by a detach- ment of frontier cavalry and infantry.
