Mumbai : The 16th edition of the Mirchi Music Awards (MMA) was announced in Mumbai. It honoured the best talent across a spectrum of genres spanning film, Indie, raag, technical excellence and the Listener’s Choice Awards.
This year ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’ earned the title of ‘Album Of The Year’, thanks to multiple tracks that resonated with audiences.
The song ‘Besharam Rang’ from ‘Pathaan’ was crowned ‘Song Of The Year’. The track also aced ‘Female Vocalist Of The Year’ which was jointly won by Shilpa Rao and Caralisa Monteiro, as well as ‘Music Composer Of The Year’ for the team of Vishal-Sheykhar.
The duo said, “Creating music that resonates with listeners is a reward in itself, but receiving this honour adds to the joy. It motivates both of us to keep pushing boundaries and exploring new sounds. A big thank you to our fans, the jury and everyone who’s been part of this musical journey.”
In the Listener’s Choice category, ‘Animal’ emerged as ‘Listener’s Choice Album Of The Year’. It featured a stellar lineup of singers including Arijit Singh, Shreya Ghoshal and Sonu Nigam and had compositions by Ashim Kemson, Bhupinder Babbal and others.
‘Phir Aur Kya Chahiye’ from ‘Zara Hatke Zara Bachke’ was crowned ‘Listener’s Choice Song Of The Year’. The popular number is sung by Arijit Singh and Sachin-Jigar, with music by Sachin-Jigar and lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya. Bhattacharya said, “Kalaakaar qadardaan ke bina kuchh nahin. Thank you for appreciating, celebrating and felicitating my work over the years. Love and gratitude always.”
On the independent music front, ‘Labon Se Baat’ by Shekhar Ravjiani, Madhubanti Bagchi and Rishabh Sharma won ‘Indie Song Of The Year’, testifying to the timelessness of ghazals. The romantic number ‘Mahiye Jinna Sohna’ by Darshan Raval was awarded ‘Listener’s Choice Indie Song Of The Year’.
Meanwhile, ‘Rut Badle’ sung by Om Bongane triumphed in the ‘Raag Inspired Song Of The Year’ category, celebrating classical music.
Kumaar, who won ‘Lyricist Of The Year’ for ‘Besha- ram Rang’, said, “Every song begins as a simple thought, and to see it come alive and resonate with so many people is immensely fulfilling. Winning at Mirchi Music Awards is not just a personal achievement but a celebration of everyone who believed in the power of these lyrics.”
The panel of judges included playback singer Kavita Krishnamurthy, director Ramesh Sippy, music director Lalit Pandit, rapper-lyricist Raftaar, singer and composer Papon, singer and music director Shekhar Ravjiani, and singercomposerLeslie Lewis.
