Jeypore Tahsil
Agency tahsil in Vizagapatam District, Madras, lying above the Ghats, with an area of 1,016 square miles. The popu- lation in 1901 was 133,831, compared with 140,580 in 1891. They live in 1,213 villages. The chief town is Jeypore (population, 6,689), the residence of the Raja of the Jeypore Estate, and a centre of trade between the Central Provinces and the low country of the District. The demand for land revenue and cesses for the whole estate in 1 903-4 was Rs. 26,000. The tahsil is all zamindari land and is for the most part open and well cultivated, the Kolab river passing through the centre of it.
