Katra

(or Miranpur Katra). — Town in the Tilhar tahsil of Shah- jahanpur District, United Provinces, situated in 28 degree 2' N. and 79 degree 40' E., on the Oudh and Rohilkhand Railway. Population (1901), 6,209. The town generally is built of mud, and contains a police station, a dispensary, and a branch of the American Methodist Mission. Between this place and Fatehganj East in Bareilly District was fought the battle in which the united British and Oudh forces defeated the Rohillas under Rahmat Khan, and effected the annexation of Rohilkhand to Oudh. Ratra is administered under Act XX of 1856, with an income of about Rs. 1,500. There is a considerable export of local produce by railway. The middle school has 128 pupils.
