The city is 5km away, the nearest district hospital at 10km.Power supply is erratic. There is no ATM and demonetisation saw the members of the village's 75 households travelling a long distance to avail cash.
It has just one health subcentre where the nurse administers first aid and there is not even a coaching centre. But what this village does have is a record -it has produced 47 IAS officers.
Talking about Madhopatti's first civil servant, Mustafa Hussain, father of eminent poet Wamiq Jaunpuri, Girish Chandra Singh, a Madhopatti native who retired from a managerial position in Delhi Industrial Development Corporation, said, “Hussain joined the civil services (then Indian Civil Services) in 1914.
“The next person to clear the exam was Indu Prakash in 1952. There was no looking back after that and now every youth is an IAS aspirant.“
Kartikeya Singh, a teacher, says “the credit goes to Tilak Dhari Singh PG degree college in Jaunpur as most of the village's IAS aspirants studied there.“ The college was started by Girish Chandra's ancestors in 1916.
