Ramachandrapuram Taluk

Taluk in the delta of Godavari District, Madras, lying between 16 41' and 17 3' N. and 81 49' and 82 13' E., with an area of 296 square miles. The population in 1901 was 220,356, compared with 198,596 in 1901. It contains one town, MANDAPETA (population, 8,380), and 117 villages, Ramachandrapuram being the head-quarters. The demand on account of land revenue and cesses in 1903-4 amounted to Rs. 11,60,000. The taluk is the most densely populated and the richest in the District. Its soil is classed almost entirely as alluvial, and it is irrigated by numerous canals. The little French Settlement pf YANAM is situated within it ; while Koti- palli and Draksharama 3 two of its villages, are well-known places of pilgrimage.
