Renowned actor Sadhu Meher’s touching portrayal of a hearing and speech impaired potter in Shyam Benegal’s Ankur (1974) earned him the national award for best actor.


He had also acted with directors Mrinal Sen (Bhuvan Shome, Mrigaya) and Tapan Sinha (Safed Haathi).


Some of his notable films include 27 Down, Nishant, Abhimaan, Aparichita, Abhilash, Bhukha and Inkaar. He also acted in detective series Byomkesh Bakshi.


He was conferred with Padma Shri in 2017 and Jayadev Samman, the highest film award by Odisha govt in 2011.
