The Cape Winelands is really a beautiful place of fertile valleys and beautiful hills - ideal for producing wine. Home to many globally renowned South Africa wine properties, The Cape Winelands are located in the Western Cape Province of South Africa, under and hours drive far from Cape Town. There are said to be over 200 wine cellars in your community, giving a lot of choice in regards to testing!
Stellenbosch Wine Area
The Stellenbosch Wine Region has become the most commonly known wine producing region in The Cape Winelands. It had been the initial location to setup a wine path back in the early 1970s. There are many great wine estates to go to in your community including: Spier, Zevenwacht, and Zorgvliet. The town of Stellenbosch was founded by Simon van Der Stel in 1679, and could be the 2nd oldest town in South Africa. The history of the community has been maintained well, with lots of the original historical structures still available over the oak lined avenues. There are monuments and several museums in the town if you are enthusiastic about the history of the area.
Franschhoek Wine Location
Created more than 300 years back by French Calvinists, The Franschhoek Wine Region is surrounded by the Franchhoek, and the Drakenstein mountains. The Franschhoek Wine Region is home to some of South Africa's most useful restaurants including the Monneaux at Franschhoek Country House and Le Quartier Francais, which are worth a call. There are many wine farms in the area including: Rupert & p Rothschild Vignerons, Manhattan project Petite Ferme, Grande Provence Wine Estate and Freedom Hill wines.
Hermanus Wine Location
The Hermanus Wine Region has 45 wine estates. A good option to test all the local wines (along with cheese and olives) is Food Fair and the annual Hermanus Wine, where all the local companies showcase their wonderful wines and food. Hermanus is one of the most readily useful spots on earth to do whale watching. For the more adventurous there's the opportunity to leap with great white sharks.
