2024: mazaar

DEHRADUN: The Dehradun district administration sent a notice to The Doon School regarding the alleged 'mazar demolition' incident from Wednesday, asking for an explanation about the structure. No response was given by the school yet.Controversy erupted earlier this week after members of a fringe group claimed that the school was illegally constructing a ‘mazar’ on their campus, which was later demolished.Concerns over a security breach at the school also surfaced after members claimed that they climbed over the school boundary. A joint administration and police team reached the spot after the incident came to light.
“During the inspection, ongoing construction work of a mazar was found, which was verified by an employee of the school, an assistant engineer of the PIU division of Smart City, and other labourers. When the MDDA land records were verified, no approvals were found for this structure, nor was any permission taken from the authorities. This incident could have resulted in an escalated law and order situation or disturbed public order,” read the administration’s notice to the school’s principal.
The district administration asked the school management to immediately provide a reply in this regard, which officials claim has not yet been given.
“The joint administration and police team verified that there are no approvals for this structure. We also needed to ensure that the law and order situation does not escalate. They carried out the demolition themselves. The school has also not provided an explanation in this regard. We will soon issue them a second notice and take further action in this matter,” said district magistrate, Savin Bansal.
